When looking for information there are several breeders who have put a lot of effort into useful information to help people make a good decision on the purchase of their long term companion.  These wonderful little dogs were and are bred to be great companions for between 10 to 18 years.  Please do not be in a hurry to buy a new puppy and remember that you are usually paying the same for a puppy from a reputable breeder as you will from someone who is just in it for the money and not the betterment of the breed.

Wonderful sites to check out for information:

Don't forget to check out the AKC website for all things dogs:      http://www.akc.org

The AKC Canine Health Foundation is hoping for help with a study of SA, Sebaceous Adenitis, please check out the following link:  http://www.janizonahavanese.com/SA.html

If you are interested in agility a wonderful place to check out is Lori Abbott's website                                            www.abbadogs.com

If you are considering purchasing a puppy from a breeder, get the name of the parents and you can go to the websites below to make sure the parents have been health tested for BAER, CERF, HIPS & PATELLA's, these are the minimum requirements on health tests.  If they have done the testing it isn't that much more to have the results posted for anyone to see.

If you are looking for a great book on Grooming than please go to www.havanesefanciers.com and check out "From Nose to Tail - Havanese Grooming Handbook.  You will love it.  Suzanne who did the Grooming book now has a new book out on Raising a Toy Breed Puppy, "Woofs, Wiggles and Wags".   The website to order from is, http://www.woofwags.com/, I think you will enjoy the reading.

You might be interested in checking out the official publication put out by the Havanese Club of America.  Go to www.havanese.org, scroll down to the bottom right under Publications to find information on purchasing the Havanese Hotline and also to download the Havanese Horizons free.  You don't have to be a member of HCA to get the Hotline so check it out.

I can recommend a couple of wonderful books for reading that were written by breeders of Havanese that you should buy if thinking of owning or already own a Havanese, these books are full of great information and pictures:
